Playing tug of war with my dog, why didn't she let go when she started bleeding?

That happened with my dog, also. She used to be so determined that she didn't even notice (or care) that she was bleeding. Dogs also have a very high tolerance of pain (I was told). She probably didn't even feel it. I would google for dog toys that would be easier on the gums. I'm sure you will find many.
