How do i stop my 5 month old llhasso apso puppy biting?

hi all im after a bit of advice, we rescued a llhasso apso 5 month old puppy, he is beautiful boy and is house trained and great in all ways apart from one thing, if he picks up something like tissue or hair band or anything if you try to take it off him he snaps and tries to bite, we are a bit concerned about this behaviour and not what i want in a dog but do not want to return him to the shelter unless this is something we will not be able to overcome. im after advice as have never expierienced this before with any dog ive had and have had the same breed before and minature schnauzer and all have been fine any advice on this would be great as we just dont know what to do with him.
